Lori Stankiewicz
ESL Consultant

Lori Stankiewicz was our Program Director for ELPW from 2009 to 2014.  Beginning in 2014, Lori stepped into the role of ESL Consultant, assisting us with our mission of serving other ESL programs (i.e., helping other churches start their own ESL programs and/or improving existing ESL programs).  With over 20 years of national and international program coordination and teaching, Lori is a seasoned professional with successful integration of language and content instruction, student oral language proficiency development, immersion programs, and adult learning Language development.

She is an excellent advocate for English language programs and has excellent experience in the preparation and ongoing language teaching contexts: Immersion programming, ECO (English Conversation Outreach), ESL (English As a Second Language)  and Bilingual Literacy.   Lori obtained her Master's in Spanish Literature from the University of Texas--El Paso and a Bachelor's of Psychology and Spanish from the University of Wisconsin--Eau Claire.  She lived ten years in El Paso, Texas, and worked for several non-profits and was program coordinator for two AmeriCorps Programs. As a passionate lifetime learner and teacher, Lori enjoyed being the training coordinator for 350 volunteers and 8 supervisors at for the UTEP AmeriCorps program. Most would say that her love of the Spanish language has helped her be bilingual and culturally sensitive.  She was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Costa Rica and as an education extensionist taught adults in GED requirements; and started and taught in a kindergarten that is still in existence today. She was privileged to study abroad in Monterrey, Mexico for a summer and Oviedo, Spain for a year. Her work focuses on the role of language in education and society, with special interests in dual language education, second language learning, and dialect diversity.
